Este libro es el resultado de la colaboración entre cuatro profesores del Departamento de Ingeniería Eléctrica, Electrónica, de Computadores y Sistemas de la Universidad de Oviedo y la empresa ABB Service.
Sus autores, M.F. Cabanas, M.G. Melero, G.ª Orcajo, J.M. Cano - Universidad de Oviedo - y J. Solares - ABB Service - ponen de manifesto uno de los problemas más importantes que se presenta en cualquier planta industiral: las averías de usu motores eléctricos. Estas averías representan un apartado de coste importante, pero los costes fundamentales no son los relacionados específicamente com su reparación, sino los asociados com la falta de disponibilidad de la máquina averiada.

Esto tiene especial relevancia en aquella maquinaria que és crítica para el sistema de producción de la planta y cuya parada puede supones la paralización de toda una línea del proceso productivo.

Atendiendo a la importancia de este tema en el ámbito industrial, surge este libro, en el que se recopilan las técnicas que se pueden considerar como tradicionales en el mantenimiento predictivo de máquinas eléctricas.

A lo largo de sus páginas el lector podrá descubrir o recordar, a tráves de la experiencia profesional e investigadora de los autores, los principios en los que se asientam las distintas técnicas de diagnóstico, así como los criterios comúnmente utilizados para establecer la condicióc en la que se encuentra la máquina.

Asimismo, se resumen en esta obra, en forma de nuevos métodos para la detección de fallos com la máquina en funcionamiento, parte de la actividad investigadora de los autores, para la cual el apoyo de ABB Service há sido primordial.
